Spray deodorant contains alcohol - and if your skin is sensitive or if you just shaved this will cause the burning.

The alcohol content caused the burn or you may be sensitive to some of the chemicals its made of. Stop using it for sure. Instead, try a solid that's made for sensitive skin. If that don't help, seek a doctors advice, something else could be the problem.

the same thing happens to me all the time. it's the alcohol in the spray that burns. it usually subsides in a matter of minutes, as you already know.
even though i do trim very closely in my underarm area, i do not irritate the skin, so i'm sure that's not the problem
so the chick a few posts above me seems to have given the best answer possible [ROCKY5]

Yes it matters. You are probably allergic to it. If you develop a redish rash try switching brands for starters, then move away from sprays if it continues. You may want to try a deodorant only (no antiperspirant in it)

You have sensitive skin. Try a gel deoderant. BOD smells weird anyway.

It depends, had you just shaved? Had you been swimming in ocean water that day? If either one, it will burn like wild fire.
