No because we are not doing it for a little temporary safety, we are doing it for long term survival.

Perhaps Franklin, as a Mason, predicted America's future with the telling quote.

He wanted freedom from the King and he had security from attacks by the King and by people in the US.

Americans gave up their freedoms and have no security from internal AND external enemies.

Yes but Bush is intent on making America an Orwellian state. He tries using SCARE tactics and FEAR mongering to do this. He figures he can SCARE people into giving up their freedoms and liberty's under so called "national security". I don't buy it.

Here is a history of governments that have used FEAR and SCARE to turn their country's into police like states.

It could but it refers more to freedom itself. If you give up your personal freedom for security (safety) you deserve neither. It's the exact opposite of what Bush has lobbied for. Give up freedoms for the "safety" that the government can provide.

Seems to me we have given up a lot of freedom in the last 6 years and haven't gained any safety.
