Do you mean "first seen by white guys?" The Nepalese have been living next to Everest for well over 9,000 years. And they knew it was the highest in their neighborhood. If you buy into Leakey's African genesis, the highest mountain in the world would have been Kilimanjaro (19,335.6 feet) as the early humans migrated out of the vicinity of Olduvai gorge. Then Godwin Austin, Kanchenjunga and Everest in whatever order they fall, as our ancestors moved East.

Um ... Mt. Everest was the tallest, whether it had been discovered, or measured, or anything else.
This presumes your talking about mountains on Earth, of course. There's a much larger one on Mars.

Science can offer no factual answer as the earth has been around for such a LONG time, that mountains have come and gone throughout earth's history.
