It apears that you are a well balanced person taking responsibility for your faith and your political stance. When one lives acording to the TRUE values of this spiritual pursuit, one is inclined to believe in kindness to others despite differences, peace and humanitarianism, and truth. That makes it a wee bit harder to stomach being a republican. There are plenty of people who believe that GOD chose GW as president and as "one nation under god" good and wise people will follow this leader. That is where we get into christian right hogwash, and I am very glad to see that you do not buy into this. Keep being who you are!

I'm also a Christian and a Democrat. Big business found out in the 1960s that the only way their party (Republican) could survive, would be to co-opt the religious right - and let them elect the party of the financially elite. More and more conservative Christians are realizing every day that they have been duped. As a Christian I feel very sorry for them.

There are a lot of Christians in the democratic party, they are not vocal about it because they believe in the separation of Church and state.

What has you confused is that there is a christianist movement that has taken over the republican party pushing for the return of religion as the governing force.

The christianists are not true christians however, remember Jesus said by the fruit you shall know the tree, do you really think that the fruit of jesus would taste as sour as they sound?

i am conservative, libertarian, not religious (i resigned from the church 40 years ago and have never gone back).
i am pro-abortion, against the use of the word "marriage" to describe gay unions.

the label is not important. what you do is.

if you live in the south, you will find many Friends in the democratic party. but, if not, you will be better off in the republican party.

hope this helps. feel free to respond.

It's up to you. But there are many devout christians in the Democratic party, despite what you may hear from the other side. Just to pick one area, consider that it has long been a central tenet of Methodism to act on one's faith through social outreach.

If both social progressivism and faith are important to you, that's a good place to start. You might also check out:

These people are not your maker. Live your life with the Lord in it. The advice of those around you is worldly, his spiritual guidance will help you become a person who is worthy of liberation. Changing your political party would not change who you are or how you vote or anything. Be true to what you believe.

Good luck

Religion shouldn't matter in politics. Freedom of religion means that ALL religions are free to exist, and whoever a person votes for is their personal business, and no one else's.

Be true to yourself, and don't worry about what others think.

"This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples, no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple: the philosophy is kindness."

you have your personal views on issues, and you should vote for people that want to represent those values.

You will find christian people of both political parties, and those without values on both parties also.

Sadly the main trouble is not with the people in the party, but the leaders, they all seem to loose thier values when they get elected.

Do you feel the need to impose your economic views on others? If so, then why don't you feel any need to impose your abortion and marriage views on others?
