Records and stats re: this very fact have been kept since WWII for the purpose of
Troop assignment: i.e. "Italian-American" troops bi-lingual were sent to serve in Pattons Third Army and used in the invasion of Sicily, many Japanese American troops were sent to the European Theatre etc.

I served personally duirng Vietnam and there was only one (1) Rabbi for ALL of South East Asia compared with 3,800 Catholic and Protestant and other Chaplains from 1967-68. FOI Doc. Request 71244.

first of all, the american military does not follow the jewish doctrine of "purity of arms."
secondly, most jews do not favour war at all. we are peaceful. we are far more concerned with loving G-d, and loving our neighbours.
and you realize that judaism is an EXTREME minority, don't you? there are only 13 million jews in the entire world, and only 5 million in the US. so obviously you will not find many in the military.

I think this has something to do with culture and social background. Jews tend to be differently educated and have therefore different career goals than many of those who choose to join the army, whatever country you may be writing from now. The army is simply not something they may feel drawn toward as much, also because being Jewish inherently implies an allegiance to Israel, rather than, say, the UK or US. So they may feel less "at home" in those countries, and less compelled to fight for them. But check out Israeli enlistment ratings, and you'll find that even most women there tend to have served several years in the Israeli army. They don't mind military. It's just got to be their own. I can sympathize with that.

As far as I know, the armed services do not keep kosher. Observant Jews are permitted to eat non-kosher during wartime if it is a necessity, but in peace time (or when it is not necessesary) it is not justified.

And where did this wonderful statistic come from? Can you please cite your sources. Are you seriously saying that there are more Muslims enlisted in the armed forces? Or more Buddhists?

check isreals army its slightly higher percentage. they dont expect us to fight their battles they hold their own. Infact we tell them to stop.
