There are different types of cancer, some are malignant (they spread to other organs) and if this is the problem, the a re-section of the intestine is needed but you didn't mention which intestine is involved. If it is the large intestine, she may require a colostomy or an artificial opening through the lower part of the abdomen and using a colostomy bag instead of defecating normally. Even after surgery, chemotherapy may be needed to prevent the return of the cancer. Many researchers think that a high fiber diet is useful in preventing such cancer but it is not a fact....just a theory. However you and others in your family (brothers and sisters) should be checked periodically after you are 25, to diagnose such a problem as early as possible.
