The drummer for van halen is good. I am a drummer and don't see how anyone could play Hot for teacher.

Elvin Jones.
Elvin's rhythm playing is constantly shifting and changing. His playing is so creative and powerful.
He's gotta be John Bonham's favorite too. Just listen to the similarities during solos. It was just a few years earlier than Zeppelin formed when Elvin was playing with John Coltrane and other greats (Wayne Shorter, Grant Green, etc...). Bonham must have heard it, and he must have dug it.

He plays every percussion instrument wonderfully and also plays the piano wonderfully.

Depends on what type of drums your thinking. I would say Danny Carey of Tool and John Bonham. Of course that is just my opinion I could be wrong.
