Okay, in short, my boyfriend lied to me about a couple things. We've only been officially going together for almost 2 1/2 months. The first thing he lied about was smoking, and the second thing his name! So should I forgive him or give him hell to pay? Is it once a liar always a liar? Or is it okay to forgive someone who lies? What's your thoughts?

What's your thoughts? Also to answer someones question as to why he lied about his name: He said that he did it cause he met me online and I guess he didnt know me that well. Plus he doesnt have the cutest name in the world and I think he's uncomfortable with it. Thank you everyone for your input so far, it is greatly apreciated! :)

Ok, the smoking thing I could handle. But his name??? Why did he lie about his name, does he have something to hide? I would be very suspicious of this man.

i think that a person who lies about his name for that long might be liying about other things too. On the other hand, if you have been dating him for 2 months and didn´t know about his smoking or fake name, maybe you dont't know this guy that well. My advise, don't get involved with someone you are not going to be able to trust. whether you forgive him or not depends on whether you can be capable of forgetting this because if you are always going to be wondering if he is telling the truth or not, you shouldn't. If you are willing to forgive him, you have to learn to trust in him again.
I think that liying about your name is pretty much liying about who you are or hiding it. If he lied about that for that long, I'd think he didn't care about you knowing who he really is. it depends on how you found out about his real name. The only person who knows exactly how it was and you feel is you. I'm sorry I can't help you that much but if you don't feel comfortable knowing that he lied to you, you should burry that. I believe that honesty and communication are a grat part in making relashionships work.

Those are some pretty ridicules things to lie about. The smoking I can see, but his name; what was the reason for that?
If he lied about something so simple, I wouldn't trust him to tell the truth on anything of a more serious nature.

RELATIONSHIPS REQUIRE COMMUNICATION. In my opinion, men are pathological liars. They will tell you ANYTHING if it means they don't get in trouble. You should have an open and honest conversation with him and tell him that if you mean that much to him, then he should always tell you the truth. And even if it is something you won't like, you will always give him the benefit of the doubt as long as he is honest with you. Ask him straight up if this is something that he can deal with. Tell him if not, then you don't want to waste your time. If so, then he should never do something to violate trust.

Well personally if he lied to you that's not good and especially since what was it you said..he lied about his name. I mean if a guy lies about smoking that maybe forgiveable but his name. how can you believe anything he says.

The smoking thing is forgivable, but he lied about his name? No way! Kick him to the curb.

Lying about smoking is a little trivial, but it's important if you don't smoke and don't wanna be exposed to secondhand smoke. As for lying about his name, that's very serious. He could be living a life you don't even know about! Tell him to quit smoking and come clean about his identity, or hit the road....
