Jimi Hendrix wasnt the only African American rocker. I believe that rock was created partly from jazz. I just think its ironic that some (not all) of the people i know, manly black, do not listen to the rock genre.

Well, rock has ceased to be relevant to any race nowadays. Come on, one of the greatest rockers around nowadays is black and by the name of Danko Jones. Yet have you heard of him? He's big in Europe but even in his home nation of Canada, still plays small halls. I don;t get it as he blows the socks off any rocker now. Go do a search and check him out.

Anyhoo, I don't get hip-hop, rap, R&B or country either now. Rock music stinks right now bar bands like the Raveonettes, The Music, Kasabian, the Caesars and the Sounds. Majority of those are from Scandinavia. Go figure.

Very true, cool question! Yeah, it is kind of odd. I guess it is b/c there aren't many blacks performing rock music though, today. If there were I'm sure we'd all be "rockin' out!". But hey, I am black and listen to Rap, R&B, Jazz, Soul, and Alternative/Rock music! But perhaps that is b/c I grew up in an all white town in Connecticut and still live there now. Oh well, I am eclectic and open-minded! Again, good question and point!

Most rock actualy has its roots in blues- blues was created by the blacks. In fact many of the songs made popular by Elvis were taken from black song writers and musicians.

The black American culture has changed quit a bit since blues was introduced. In my opinion, the racism that occured, and still occurs in some places, has tainted rock music and made many subconsiously associate rock with being white only music.

I know some that do and I've met a lot of black people at past Ozzfests. It's not race, it's personal preference. Music can go beyond the boundaries that society sets for us

Some do listen to rock and some don't there's nothing ironic about it, it's just people like what they like and no one can change that.

sort of but not really its changed a lot from its original sounds...and technically speaking rap was partly created from jazz too but see how much they differ (rap and jazz or rap and rock)
