Because the pizza company can't be sure how long it takes your particular brand and model of oven to get up to temperature.

But what they can be sure of is that if the oven starts out at a known temperature and you cook their pizza for 15 minutes that it is a perfect cook of the pizza....

You might not believe it, but some foods can taste different, and look different if you do not preheat the oven. When you make a dutch apple pie for instance, and you do not preheat the oven for at least 7 -10 minutes, it will take an 1/2 hr longer, and will not look as crisply delicous. Also, if you defrost pies, lets say, before you preheat the oven then put it in without preheating, it will look even worse. trust me.

Silly troll. You added five minutes to the cooking time. Therefore the first five minutes that the pizza was in the oven, you were preheating. You just had the pizza in the oven, while it got up to temperature.

I'm not sure of the purpose with pizza, but when baking, the oven does need to be pre-heated because if you put a cake in a cold oven and wait for it to get hot, the cake will cook unevenly.

Because it is required when making HOMEMADE goodies, such as cookies, cakes, bread, etc. Why WOULDN'T you preheat? What's the big deal? And why on earth would I eat mediocre Tombstone pizza when I could get good dough even at Trader Joe's? And homemade pizza from scratch is SO good! Mmmm. What is it with you and preheating? I think you need to discuss your fear in therapy! Hahahahaha!

Actually it does alter the cook time and sometimes with lets say pizza it can burn the bottom b/f it melts the cheese all the way, unlest you have a convection oven, (one that has a fan to circulate the heat)

The electric company has told me that unless it is some sort of baked good (cake, rolls, biscuits, things that need to rise) there is no need to preheat. It just adds a few minutes to the food you are cooking...

Preheating allows it to get to the temperature you need it at. That way you don't have much chance of burning your food. But if you've gone without for awhile than go ahead, it's your thing.

it changes how long it takes to cook what you put in it and can dry out what you're cooking, over cook some parts or ingredients and under cook others. but it still cooks when you don't preheat it.

Hummm.......... it has something to do with optimum heating advantage dear. You just haven't burned or left enough things raw in order to have learned that life lesson yet. You will though.
