Employers think that someone who is overqualified for a job isn't going to be happy doing a job that doesn't challenge them, or interest them, and they will get bored with the job and leave as soon as they find something else that is more in line with their experience and qualifications.
It's a bummer when you're looking for a job and seriously want to work, and someone tells you you're overqualified.

Don't take it to personally a lot of employers want people who are willing to work their way to the top in their business, that way they know every part of the business and become a very useful person, not just some one that thinks he knows everything even though they don't.

Hey Girl,
Had it happen to me and was pissed off. Not the reason for not hiring you it is the excuse. It is just a nice way of saying we do not want you.
Hurts but put it behind you and believe in yourself and move on.
Hugs to you,
jeffrey

They figure that the person would not find the job challenging enough and would leave the job and they would have the trouble of recruiting someone else.

proably because they'll want to get paid more, since they can do more. also, they;ll probably get bored quickly and either look for another job, or want more challenging work, that their employer may not be able to give them
