It went on to live a long and productive life. Sold the book and movie rights and made a fortune. I heard it was briefly a suspect in the Black Dahlia murder, but the police never really followed up on the lead. It died in a hotel suite in Las Vegas, but that might just be a rumor.

I would like to believe that it melted very slowly, regretting that it cost the lives of many men, women, and children. That it caused one of the most well-known ocean cruise liners to sink into a cold, watery grave.

I would imagine it probabably just eventually melted. It's surprising that someone didn't try to save some of it to sell.
