I’ve only been there a handful of times (and I live less than 30 miles away), usually only to go to the airport(s). Once, my family and I were stuck in a left-turn lane for 20 minutes because the damn pedestrians kept walking in front of the cars in front of us. I know pedestrians are supposed to have the right of way, but this was more than ridiculous. When it was finally our turn to turn, the moronic pedestrians walked right in front of our car, oblivious to the fact that my husband was willing to run them over to finally get a chance to turn. Most of them didn’t even acknowledge our car until it was just about to hit them. How can anyone want to live or drive in a city like this? If you actually enjoy living in this kind of environment, please enlighten me as to how you can stand it.

cindy_cee13, I’m not associating Illinois with Chicago. I’m just referring to Chicago.

Ever heard of Kankakee? I'm from there, about 60 miles south of Chicago. Chicago is a nice place to visit ... You know the rest. Its been over 20 years since I've been back there.

I lived in the city for several years and now live in the burbs. It is just a fact of life that the city is full of people and many of them are walking. Driving there is different, as you must be constantly alert and yes, pedestrians do have the right of way. Next time, try parking the car at the airport and taking public transit or a taxi into the city. Parking downtown is expensive, but walking or buses are much faster, easier to get around. Good luck!

It's fun to answer this question! I was born in Hillsboro, Ill, lived in SanJose, Pekin, Decatur, Lincoln & many parts of Chicago from 1950-1967. I had an itch to get movin & 'ran away' from San Jose when I was 5, 'ran away' from Pekin when I was 10, 'ran away' from Lincoln when I was 12, 'ran away' from Chicago several times to California & NYC by the time I was 15! They kept bringin me BACK! I finally got the flock outta Chicago for good when I was 17! The US Army allowed me to stay away til I took my new bride, 3 yrs later to meet the 'family'. Besides the unmerciful winter blizzard of '67, I had left with the intention of never returning, but did, in '79, to bury my grandmother & I was stranded again! They thought I was 'impersonating' a US Soldier on leave from Hawa!! & put me in a southern Ill State VA Hospital to validate my claims, while recovering from FROSTBITE! Talk about a long 3 days of delierious waitin wid da looney tunes! It will be another 25 yrs before I get back to the lunacy of Chicago & you can bet, I'm not too anxious to try before 2099! Cespool city of gloom & doom! & yet somehow still better than Detroit, huh?! +2!

I grew up in Chicago, it used to be a great city back in the 50s and 60s. I do miss it. I lived in L.A. for 30 years and that place sucks. I am now in Boise, much better.

People who live in Chicago are rude, and act like douche bags. People who live in the burbs are slutty whores who talk like valley girls.
Oh and they think they can walk whenever and wherever they want in the street.
