Where is a good place to buy ferrets if you live in California. I know some of you may say "duh...in a petshop" but i need true answers. It has to be around Fountain Valley and Seal Beach.

It's not illegal...everytime i went to the petstore....they would always have a full aisle just for ferrets. If it was illegal they wouldnt have that.

I thought it was illegal to buy a ferret in California. All my friends got theirs in Nevada.

Yeah, I checked - it's illegal.

Yes, it is illegal, even though they do sell them. I don't know the places you're talking about, but go onto google and type "California Ferret Shelters" and you'll get a lot of hits for ferret shelters. They are lower cost most of the time than pet stores, and you'll be saving a ferret's life who might not have had it easy. Good luck! ~Shannon and Magic~
PS: Also, it's a common misconception that there are wild ferrets living in the wilderness. The only type is the Black Footed Ferret, which is the most endangered animal in North America, and they live near Wyoming, the Dakotas, etc. Domesticated ferrets cannot, no matter what anyone says, live out in the wild for more that 2 weeks, at the most. They've been domesticated for over 1000 years, and the majority of them are neutered, so they couldn't breed and keep the population alive even if one of them did some how make it. I'm just saying.

Ferrets ARE illegal in California!!! Jeez. Read up. Ferretsanonymous is a good website. They ARE illegal. Stores can sell anything they want FOR ferrets, just not ferrets. If you want one, check out the yahoo group for California ferrets. If you go to Vegas, there is a store there that has them.

Stores sell so much stuff because California has the MOST ferrets of all the states. But they still ARE ILLEGAL.

here is the American Ferret Association website and some other links that you might need:
http://www.ferret.org/index.shtm
http://www.goldenstateferretsociety.org/
http://www.ferretnews.org/
Also here is the link for petfinder with all the ferrets in shelters in your area: (if there arent any keep trying the search:
http://search.petfinder.com/search/search.cgi?action=1&pet.Animal=Small%26Furry&pet.Breed=ferret&pet.Age=&pet.Size=&pet.Sex=&location=90740&preview=1&scope=0&x=11&y=7
I believe that ferrets are still illegal in the state of California...they are trying to legalize them but I am not sure that it has been done yet. I really dont know the ins and outs of ferrets in Cali... although if possible try to adopt. In my area, our nearest shelter has at least 40 ferrets all the time, most of which are still under a year. Hope this helps...if you are looking at getting a ferret, I would get Ferrets For Dummies. It is seriously the best ferret book on the market.

It is actually illegal to own a ferret in California. They are on the list of banned wild animals that are not supposed to be in the state, and the Department of Fish and Game has forbidden them.

Many states had previously had anti-ferret laws on the books, but all of them but California have made it legal to own pet ferrets (as wild ferrets are the ones they are trying to keep out anyway).

While you aren't likely to get arrested for buying or owning a ferret, no SWAT teams breaking into your house, it is techinically illegal to own a ferret in California.

Ferrets are illegal in California.
You'll have to go to another state to get a ferret. But before you do, read up on them and learn everything there is to know about them. Make sure they are the right pet for you.

I agree with madfly80. Ferrets for Dummies is an excellent book to get before getting a little furry poopmachine
