I've always wanted to be a doctor. Ever since i was a little kid making "special" drinks for my family members that i thought would cure them of their ills. And now i'm lost. I'm confused. I have no clue what i'm meant to do with the rest of my life. I start university in a month. I feel... slightly frustrated at my lack of direction.

How about you?

You need to see why you are so depressed, are you sure you want to become a doctor or is there something else you want to do with your life? You need to sit and relax in a hammock and figure out what you want in life, and make new friends and maybe try to go to church this may have a good effect!

It does suck but if you put your mind to it you can determine what your life will be like in lets say 10 years or so. Going to the university is a fresh start. Even if you change majors here and there just hang in there you will do it. Good luck with everything

What really sucks is that I'm almost 50 and still feel I don't know what I'm doing with the rest of my life. I have a lot of regrets - one thing for sure I wish I had went away to college. I had decided to not go to college and work for my famlies business - wrong path for me. If you are going away to college I think your on your way to finding where your life will lead you. Have fun and good luck

I felt the same way! I always wanted to be working in the medical field but changed my mind during high school. I had no idea what to take during freshman year of college, so I took the classes that would be good for me incase I still wanted to be a doctor; biology, chemistry, etc. I'm a sophomore now, and I'm still unsure. I tried those lousy career assesment tests, but they never worked for me. Sorry I wasn't much help, but tell me what happens when you make up your mind!

I do know what I am going to do for the rest of my life. I follow God's plan no matter what may be in store. It isn't always easy, but it does make life a pleasure one way or the other once I know why He chooses each path.

Nope! When you discover the true meaning of life you will realize that money is not the Alpha and Omega like society wants you to believe. Live each day like its your last! Carpa Diem. I never know what I'm going to do from one day to the next and really don't care what anyone thinks. I live my life for the sake of just "Being" and not doing.

it'd be boring to know for certain--no chance for experimentation. as far as the lack of direction--join the gang. five bucks says many of the "grown-ups" you know have changed their paths/fields/careers at some point. it used to make me feel confused, until i figured out it was way more fun to explore different things and face new challenges, to find this or that really interested me or i was capable of something i thought i'd flounder in. started out in international relations (and i was positive i was going into the field!), switched to english and philospohy, then chemistry...am now a nurse and thinking of working on a psych degree. it's made my life so much more interesting to have had such varied experiences and it is part of what has made me who i am....maybe you could check more into anatomy or physiology? social work/therapist? bio-chem or pharmacology if it is the medicine itself that interests you? heck--be a nurse!

I pretty much know what I am doing. I am a mother and I'll keep on doing that then I hope to just live my life. I'm not asking for too much. Just happiness.

Roll with the punches, dude. If you stay honest with yourself in what you enjoy and love, then no matter where you end up, you'll
be happier than you are now.
