With our young adults not voting and most other people voting blindly and uninformed, did we screw ourselves from ever getting some decent leadership again? Or did we underestimate the shrewdness of our government who manipulated us in unseen ways to vote the way we did? Make no mistake people, the government we have now has its own agenda and has forgotten it is supposed to serve us.

Tammy C, problems do not just go away. Our leadership is doing nothing but complain and they are all slaves to a sponsor and cannot possibly serve the people while thye are. The point of this question was that I think the American people have had it good for so long and few major problems have arisen that we didn't necessarily care who got elected so now all these people who only care about they party they are in line with are in office and will do everything in their power to keep real people out of office by controlling the media and the money come election time. If we in the past would have made more informed votes for better leaders, we may not be in the predicaments we are in.
Thank you all for answering. I was honored to read all your answers.

That is a very serious question. And a sad commentary for the American people.
I don't feel as though I have been manipulated in any way and I completely fail to see any validity in anyone's complaint about our government's policies if they didn't even have the little incentive it takes to fill out a ballet every four years.
And, unfortunately, these are the people who seem to p*ss and moan the most often about politics.
No, the government hasn't forgotten it's suppose to serve us, unfortunately, the people may have forgotten.
Remember, in a democracy, the people get the government they deserve.

I don't know, I'm 27, I'm from the generation that's been labeled generation X, I don't really think that it's good to make generaliztions like that. Our country is definately headed in a different direction, but, I believe that problems often have a tendency to correct themselves. I think our government does still work for us, it's not the governments fault that so many people are uninformed. This country is just messed up and it is falling. I just think that we are way over populated, but I am hoping that the problem will have corrected itself by the time my daughter becomes an adult, without having to have any major catastrophies along the way. We're in Gods hands now, I think the only thing we can do is pray and trust that it will eventually be worked out. The baby boomers will be dying off soon, The government is killing off my generation fast enough, with HIV and all of the intrevinious drugs that are currently available to those who choose to take them. Nothing can be done about it except, just sit back and pray.

This is so true, but on the other hand it is up to us to push these young people not only to vote, but to vote in the right direction, not to just follow in there parents tracks they have to learn what is a head for them and the consequences if they don't do something to day. Bill Gates has a good point and he is backing it with his money. this has to start in the school systems and be just as important as graduating.

Believe it or not the system does work. However, the people in this day in age don't. I'm 14, I write to my senator and representative about once a week. You have to show them you care. Don't just complain about it. Anyone can complain, stand up and take charge of you write to protest the government, tell them how you feel.

Until recently, I taught high school seniors, and to be honest, I'm glad most of them don't vote. They are, for the most part, uninformed, apathetic, spoiled little dumba**es. They like to ***** about our government without really knowing what they're talking about.

As a whole, yes, we have screwed ourselves. Its the same game its been for generations and not to be taken as a personal error, unless of course, you helped to vote the wrong guy/s in ;) You're either "IN" or at the mercy of those who are.

basically yes were screwed but its not our fault. the corruption has existed for ages. it didnt just begin with the bush administration. its been there for as long as anyone alive can remember. were never told the honest to god truth because the country would be in ruins. when it comes down to it we jsut have to vote and hope the guy we elect knows how to handle teh corrupt politicians he/she will surely encounter.

I dont believe all hope is lost but we must get the crimminals out of office as quickly as possible. If you truly care about this country you will not vote for ANY incumbant political whore. If they are incumbant then they are indeed whores.

I guess it's unfair to make that assumption because hindsight is 20/20. Who knew 9/11 would happen? Seems that's when things fell apart.
