I think it will be difficult for him but I think in some ways his vulnerabilities make him sorta appealing also. He has probably completely alienated a certain percentage of his fans but I think most people can empathize with his alcohol problem. Hollywood will probably find a way to spin the controversy to their advantage in his next film project. Knowing Mel, It might even be in a jewish role. He's done everything right in owning up to his mistake, so he definitely deserves a second chance in my estimation!

Gibson has alluded many times to a darker side to his personality. "I was a pretty wild boy, quite frankly," he said in one interview. "Even now when I'm trying more than I was before, I still fail every day at some level, but that's being human." Around the time he was promoting The Passion of the Christ, he was even more explicit: "I got to a very desperate place. Very desperate. Kind of jump-out-of-a-window kind of desperate. And I didn't want to hang around here, but I didn't want to check out. The other side was kind of scary... When you get to that point where you don't want to live, and you don't want to die, it's a desperate, horrible place to be. And I just hit my knees. And I had to use The Passion of the Christ to heal my wounds." We can now expect a lot of old questions to come back to haunt Mel Gibson: whether his traditionalist branch of the Catholic Church holds the Jews responsible for Christ's death, and whether he is not altogether too close to his eccentric father, Hutton Gibson, who has explicitly denied the Holocaust and denounced the reformist wing of the mainstream Catholic Church as a "Masonic plot backed by Jews". Variety predicted yesterday that Gibson might have to give up on the idea of mainstream studio distribution of Apocalypto and distribute the film on his own through his company, Icon Productions. One way or the other, he is probably in for an uncomfortable few months. His best hope is that Apocalypto turns into yet another unexpected box-office smash - at which point, in true Hollywood fashion, all will be forgiven and his tirade against the Malibu police last Friday night will be written off as just another industry indiscretion

No, but I think he should be barred from moviemaking until he can expunge the DUI from his record. And this is coming from a Mel Gibson fan; I am NOT making excuses for him. What Mel did was wrong and at least he owned up to it by apologizing and taking the steps to curb his alcoholism (which is NOT easy to overcome).
Yes, I will watch his films again. A lot of his Hollywood co-workers actually defended him, saying that he's not an anti-Semite and it was the booze talking (anyone who has been drunk has probably said stuff they wouldn't say in reality). Even one of Mel's Jewish friends defended him.
There's an old adage by author Ernest Hemingway. To paraphrase him, "when you're sober, do the things you said you'd do drunk. That would teach you to keep your mouth shut."

He has done some really awesome stuff professionally. So if Tom Cruise can jump on a couch and behave like a complete psycho, then I think Mel Gibson can bounce back from this fiasco in time.

i think that Mel has proven himself professionally and personally. he is normal like any one else that made a mistake. i mean under normal circumstances (when he is sober) he would absolutely not say shite about the Jewish people; but because he was under the influence of alcohol which loosens the lips and loses the brain cells he reacted to how people commented on the passion of Christ i think. i loved the film and it shows how Jesus was shunned for his beliefs. in a sense (theoretically) that is how the Hollywood people are doing to Mel now

I hope people aren't that shallow. I mean he said something stupid. Everyone says stupid stuff when they're mad. People should just chill and chalk it up to him being human.
