Get a sonogram? Don't you mean purchase a sonogram machine?

While it's true that you have an ultrasound around five months, you will probably have your first one real soon. With both of my children, I had my first ultrasound during my initial visit, right around eight weeks. I had a more detailed ultrasound at 20 weeks. During this one, the doctor will take measurements of the baby to make sure he/she is developing properly. This is when the doctor can tell you the sex of the baby. Toward the last few weeks of your pregnancy, you might need another. Obviously, you will need more ultrasounds if you are having any type of complication. I had three ultrasounds during each of my pregnancies. Congrats!!

Generally no earlier than 11 weeks. When you go in for your first prenatal visit (which should be in a couple of weeks)... they'll probably schedule you for one between 11-12 weeks. You don't get to decide when to take them. It's the doctor that will tell you when you need one.

Its usually when your around 5 or 6 months, they can detect the sex earlier, depending on the way the baby is turned.

There no need to have one unless your having complications. Some Dr. push them, others don't. My last two pregnancies, I had only one and it was about 5 months.

This is a question you should be asking your OB/GYN. I would not trust someone else's opinion about something so vitally important.
