I want to save on gas, have a nice bike and reliable to commute daily to school.

Yes, a co-worker has an '84 BMW bike. I don't know exactly which model. He bought it new and has over 130000 miles on it. No real problems.

Any BMW is a great bike for daily riding. Check out the new ones with the electric windshield. Really a better bike. Also Honda has a 1300 with ABS brakes & electric windshield as well.

Yes, The BMW will be a very good and reliable bike. I've seen many of them with more than a 100,000 miles on them that still run like new.

Good choice if you're already a reasonably experienced rider. If you have no motorcycle experience, though, you're likely to find it a bit heavy and difficult to control compared to something smaller and more forgiving.
