Michael Jordan

2006-09-09 20:07:12 · answer #2 · answered by brian57 3 · 0 0

Is Michael Jordan the greatest ever? Not just the greatest basketball player but the greatest athlete: a figure who not only dominates his sport but also changes the way it's played, who dominates that sport not only in his own time but also across time? Where does Jordan stand relative to Babe Ruth, say, or Muhammad Ali?

Let's knock down the basketball straw man first. If someone plays defense like Bill Russell, passes like Isiah Thomas, scores like Julius Erving and rises to the occasion like Larry Bird, it's hard to argue against him. The clincher comes in the context of his team. When Jordan's around, the Bulls win championships. When he's off flailing at minor-league curve balls, they don't.

No one can touch Jordan, Kobe's not even close yet. Chamberlain would have been garbage against today's players. Screw his records, they mean dic k. Imagine Wilt on Shaq, lol Shaq would own him. Dominique a great player? Absolutely. The greatest? Not even close. Magic, Kareem, Bird, close, yes, but no cigar.

Your all wrong!! The greatest player was Wilt Chamberlin that still holds many records, check it out. Almost every year led the league in points, rebounds, blocks. and assists, averaged 50 points a gme one year. What player has done that? None

Jordon, for obvious reasons. Dominique Wilkins for being the greatest player on a lousy team and Julius Irving whos greatness was without any type of supporting cast.

Bill Russell. It's championships that count and Russell dominated Wilt. Russell also could score but played the role he was meant for--dominant defender, shot blocker, rebounder and great outlet passer to key the C's fast break.
