Because he respects her decision to leave him. The guy doesn't get to keep a girl, she choses to stay with him. I hope that makes sense to you.

well if he loves her and she is in a situation that does not allow them to be togehter and it seems to be causing a disturbance in both their lives. the I would say that would be a good reason.
I had a x from seven years back the relationship only laste for 8 months but she could never got over me and well i the same but she always needed me during rough times in her relationship and then always told me how she loved me so but i could do nothing cause she always remained in those relationships. I told her that i didnt leave her blind on a road. but then one day she got married and on the 3 year we talked and she told me she was so unhappy 12 days after they were married. and how she spent sleepless nights thinking about me and well i was doing the same thing. finaly after a year of talking with her she remained married and she kept going back forth with me mind you we never did anything we met a couple of times but there were always friends or family around they always knew. then i started to go crazy and started to get so confused and i started to notice insecurites popping up in my life which is something i am not used to. then that is when i wrote her a letter of pages and told her everything i was going through and how i felt for her and reminded her of everything we had gone through. i told her that we need to go our separate ways for i lost my way and maybe one day we could be friends with out having to worry about anyone else or feeling conflicted inside. i miss her dearly but i needed the peace for i did not have it any more. ill say this though i still wonder if i did the right thing. but all add this the calmness is in me again but every once in while i swear , i swear i can feel her ill start crying sometimes when i hear a song or just the though of her. the other night i start to drift and go into a sleep and i swear i feel her laying on top me holding me then i woke and jumped up from my bed. is that her calling me? i dont know i just hope i did the right thing

Because he saw that there was no hope, and didn't want to put his entire heart and soul on the line, it's sad, I know, but it happens, and it's their choice.

maybe the guy knew he wasn't good enough for the girl and didn't wan't to spend his life breaking her heart over and over (fine fine, I live in a fantasy)
