There was a movie, years ago, What About Bob? The story was about a multi-phobic man and a psychiatrist that wrote a book called baby steps. The movie is hilarious with Bill Murray. Leaving the psychiatrist's office seems overwhelming to Bob, he's afraid of everything, it's a long walk to the elevator. The doc tells him to break it down, don't look at the whole trip. Just worry about getting out the door first. Then walk to the elevator, don't think about anything but the task you are on right now.
But, there is a certain wisdom in the baby steps concept. Sometimes I feel absolutely paralyzed from being overwhelmed. So I look at what I want to accomplish and break it down into "baby steps." I tell myself to do some part of the task for 5 minutes, then step away. Pretty soon i am making a game of how much I can get done in my five minutes.
And if it is life situations that feel overwhelming, I try to take one segment at a time and get a teeny bit of control over it. Bills, people asking things of you. You can still break it down and get it conquered.

One task at a time and trying to help myself by listening to music that uplifts me, eating a good, healthy diet. Making sure I am getting enough sleep and drinking enough water. Those kind of go by the wayside when you are stressed and that is when you need to focus on them the most. I also try to make a list of the good things in my life and focus on them. I call friends and talk, send greeting cards, things that I enjoy.

"Hello kitcatt143!
When I was a young guy it was really hard to deal with overwhelming events and situations; however, the best thing I've found for me to do is call on my relatives and close friends for support.
It has really worked for me and I bet it would help you too."

diffused distraction and ensuring on my own time. each so often beaten people will isolate to minimize the 'length of their international' to experience some kind of administration over their ecosystem. it truly is not any longer thoroughly a foul ingredient yet total isolation is basically too a lot... the social distraction must be diffused and uncomplicated.

I keep a journal. I write whatever random thought comes to mind when things are really tough. It really helps to get it all out on paper. I talk to my husband, or a friend. I listen to some of my favorite music. It also helps to distract myself. I do puzzle books to distract my mind from all that's bothering me. Most importantly, I rely on my therapist.

Take a time out! I ask everyone to leave me alone for a while and I retreat to my room and turn on soft music, light candles or take a hot bath.

I get in my bed and turn on the TV or my iPod, get my iBook and a glass of Coke and catch a buzz and eat dark chocolate and call my sister.
