You are only 14 - your parents can't expect you to descide at such a young age!!! It takes time to figure out what you like to do and what interests you... You are young and should try to do good in school - but you need to keep singing and playing ball. And even when your older you need to keep singing and playing ball because THAT is what is going to keep you young at heart and give you joy in your life... People who make it in music usually persue music with all their hearts and have somebody in your corner who is for you and not against you.... I hope you don't let your parents discourage you too much!!! No matter what career you have - you should always hang on to the things you love to do.. Being a singer is a part of who you are - you don't want to lose yourself - So don't ever give up your singing! B-ball is more than just fun and games - it keeps you healthy and in shape and makes you happy when you play - so don't ever give that up for some crummy job. There's no reason you can't have a career and also persue your singing and ball playing. You can do all of those at the same time.

Parents can really discourage a young person - trying to give you a reality check when you are too young to make a discission about having a career. I hope you remember that singing and ball playing is a part of who you are and you need to hang on to that... If you give them up to make your mom and dad happy - they will be the only ones happy. You have to be happy too - so don't give that up...

Plan on going to college - or some other training program - or whatever... keep talking to people to find out what is available for you to do. There are tons of options. Ask adult you know what they do for a living and if they like it and what kind of schooling did they need... That will give you some ideas. But tell your parents you are only 14 - did they forget??? Most people don't know until they are much older -and some people never really figure it out.

Good luck I hope I see you on American Idol someday!!!

I know how you feel. I could sing really good when I was your age - but my parents discouraged me and told me I had to figure out something else to do... The told me to go in the military.... But, I didn't do that - it just wasn't for me.... I floundered around in pointless jobs for a long time. But, If I could do it all over again -this is what I would suggest that you do.
1. always persue your passion - it will fill your heart and lungs with a renewing fountain of life - and make you happy inside. Even if you never have a platnum record - do it because it makes you happy inside.
2. You probably should try out for American Idol - why not? Your young - you never know what can happen. It's probably the easiest way for a young person to get started in the singing business. If I was young I would try out for it - but I'm way past the age limit now.
3. Do everything I mentioned above - and go to college... College is WAY better than Junior High or High school... You get to learn all different stuff that you won't learn in regular school. It is far more interesting and you may find there is something else you are interested in and find something you can do for a living - in case you don't make a living as a singer... Also, there are other music related careers. What about being a choir director, Music Teacher, or a Karaoke DJ. I know a couple who has karaoke djs all over this city - and they are very wealthy. So, you have to look for what your options are.

Plus, you are 14. You don't have to descide now. College helps you descide after you take several general classes that give you ideas about what you like. If you are poor and don't know if college is available to you - there are student loans and grants you can get. Don't worry about the money to go. If there is a will there is a way...

Good luck - keep singing and playing b-ball.

I say do what ever you want...don't let your parents make the descisions for you. You have to explore the opportunities. And experience them first hand. So if you want to be a full time singer or make a recording studio or whatever go ahead do the research. And if you like what you read, try it out.

The entertainment industry is very hard to get into. I would suggest a more "stable" job first and singing when you can. Then when you get discovered you can drop the "stable" job...and if worst comes to worst and you end up being a one-hit-wonder then you have other skills upon which to fall.

Good luck!

2 pieces of advice: learn what a run on sentence is and don't ever write one again and memorize this phrase: hookt on fonix werkd fur me. Seriously, if you have any chance of being a professional anything, take a grammar class and don't ditch class. This is a shining example of what is wrong with our public school system. Thanx for the points

How about take music in high school and college and teach yourself as much about it as you can. Perhaps you could be a music teacher as you pursue a career as an R & B singer. Godloveya!
