We'll never know. My philosophy has always been that if they loved each other as much as the story suggested, she would have chosen the door with the lady, knowing that he wouldn't stop loving her despite being married to someone else. But I'm a closet romantic, what can I say. :)

I hated the end of that story. But I think if she really loved him, she would want him to be alive and happy. So, I like to believe she pointed to the door with the Lady behind it.
