1. Multiply. -3a^2b/35a^5 x 14a^3b^2/-9b^4. I need the steps and the negatives are messing me up.

2. During rush hour, Bill can drive 15 miles using the side roads in the same time that it takes to travel 10 miles on the freeway. If Bill's rate on the side roads is 8 mi/h faster than his rate on the freeway, find his rate on the side roads.

3. Add. Express your answer in simplest form. x-13/x^2-x-12 + 3x-3/x^2-x-12

4.Write in simplest form. 5r^3st^2/10r^6s^3t show work I know –10/5=-2, but how do I do the rest.

5. Subtract. Express your answer in simplest form.5x/x-7-35/x-7. i know the denominaters are the same buit how do I do the steps?

1. Simplify each of the terms first. So your first term would become (-3b)/(35a^3) and the second term would become (14a^3)/(-9b^2). Then multiply your two fractions. The negatives shouldn't be a problem. A negative times a negative is a positive, so don't worry about the negatives here.

2. You need to set up two equations based on distance equals rate times time.

So on the side road
D = RT
15 = (R+8)(T) His rate was 8 mph faster

And on the freeway
D = RT
10 = RT

R is his rate and since his time was the same for both trips, you use T in both trips. Use substitution, or elimination to solve these equations for R.

3. The denominators are the same, so you just add the numerators. You will need to factor both the numerator and denominator once you have added to see if any factors cancel out.

4. You need to simplify each of the variables separately. By the way, 5/10 = 1/2, I'm not sure where you got -2 from, but you shouldn't be flipping the division. You have r^3/r^6, subtract the powers, and since you had more r's in the denominator leave the r's in the denominator after subtracting the powers.

5. Subtract the 2 numerators, but since they are not like terms you will get (5x-35)/(x-7). See if you can factor either the denominator or the numerator and then you might be able to cancel.

I hope all of this helps. Good luck with your math.
