Why do pics not show up in e-mails sometimes?

Sometimes in e-mails sent to me, the pics in them don't show up, or there is a square with a red x in it, that when clicked on, nothing happens. What can I do to fix this?

When in Yahoo Mail, click Options, cl General Preferences.

Scroll down and clear the box in front of "Display HTML images."

keep on refreshing the page until it appears
