This is a very tough question.
I can honestly say that I am 'on the fence' even though I have Jewish heritage.
I believe that both sides are right and both sides are wrong. I'll explain:
- 2000 years ago the Jewish ppl had control of Jerusalem; some believe that gives them the right to own it no
- BUT then the Palestinians had control for many many years; some believe that gives them the land
- 1948 countries outside of either the Jewish ppl or the Palestinians stepped in and created Israel; thereby, giving it to Jewish ppl and settling the dispute
- Ever since that occurred, the Palestinians have felt as though the land was stolen from them... much like the Jewish ppl felt it was stolen from them before.
So you see, neither is right and neither is wrong.
-This also applies to the violence. Both sides have committed atrocities. Israel goes into Lebanon with aerial bombs kililng many civilians when they know Lebanon has no air force. That seems cowardly and unfair to me.
-But on the other side, you have the Palestinians and Hezbollah that constantly use suicide bombers to kill Israeli civilians.
Once again, neither is right and neither is wrong.

Everybody has a right to a homeland, Jews included. Nevertheless in the name of that right and in the name of self defense what is now happening is that other people's rights and also their lives are being taken, with total disregard for fairness. I dont think you will be able to have any proper perspective in your classes. The whole Jew Holocaust is overblown beyond reality. If you just look at the mass killings of people in the world after War World II, you will be surprised at how many millions have died, in Laos alone more than 3 million people were killed and so on, and so forth.... Who remembers them? Where are the memorials? The Statues? The movies? The books? The foundations to help the survivors? Who seeks justice? Nobody.... Jews have money and power and know well how to handle both, not that they dont have the right to it, they earn it. What is not right is how they have twisted the facts beyond reality and made a huge and perpetual marketing campaign to forever exploit the Holocaust politically and economically and use that money and power to deny, extort, and ultimately do away with the rights and lives of others. That they do have a right to exist and defend themselves? Of course they do..... as do all.... but proper limits need to be had...

What most people forget is that when the UN (really the US) created Israel after WWII there were people already living there.
Think about it like this. What would happen if the UN decided to take your state and remove it from the US and make part of a new country for the {insert name of an oppressed group} so they can have a homeland. You had not say in the matter, the people came and took over. How would you react? How would the people in the neighboring states react?

What do you mean who is right? In what regards? Who's the who you are talking about?
Here's a short history lesson:
WWII happens and millions of Jews are killed or starved almost to death. After the war ended they felt that there was no place for them in Europe where the people had turned a blind eye to the atrocities. The Jews decided that they would go back to Israel and create a new nation. One problem: Britain owned Palestine and the land was lived on by Palestinians. England didn't want the Jews in and the Arabs didn't either, but the Jews began to sneak into Palestine and create militias, which often competed with each other. They staged terrorist attacks against the British in Palestine and eventually the Brits left. A conflict between the Jews and Arabs ensued until the UN created two nations: Israel and Palestine. Unfortunately, the Arab world wasn't happy with this situation, so they all got to together and tried to invade, several times. Israel won every time, even when they were vastly outnumbered. To the victor goes the spoils and Israel began to take chunks of land from the invaders as a buffer against future attacks. This includes what is now the West Bank (Palestine), the Golan Heights (Syria), and Gaza (Egypt). Due to the wars, many Palestinians were uprooted and moved to refugee camps (many of which are now full blown cities but are still called refugee camps) in neighboring countries. Typically, the Arab world has a lot of contempt for Palestinians, so they don't want them in their nations, but their hatred for Israel overrides this. In the Palestinian territories, Israeli settlements sprung up. These are towns that are built in Gaza and the West Bank. Many are illegal, but a few are government sponsed. The issue of the settlers has caused several peace attempts to fall through (that and the issue of Jerusalem, which both sides want). Israel has recently pulled almost all of the settlers out of the occupied territories, to the dismay of many Israelis.
There have been several other conflicts between Palestinians and Isreal or terror groups against Israel. Palestinians sneak into Israel and blow up buses and Israel will respond by sending the army into Palestine to kill more terrorist leaders. There have been several peace offerings (one brokered by Clinton) that gave the Palestinians everything they wanted (except for the destruction of Israel), but Yasser Arafat walked out of the talks right before signing (Madeline Albright ran after him to beg him to recondsider, but no dice). Many Palestinians won't be satisfied until Israel is wiped off the Earth and many Israelis, want all of Palestine for themselves. The radicals on both sides make peace hard to come by.
In regards to the recent conflict with Hezbollah, Israel was 100% right.

Israel was a nation before there was a Palestine. Prior to the Palestinians there was a nation called Phillistine. After the nation of Islam came into being, Israel was taken over by the new Palestinians during biblical times, and they maintained control of the land for approximately 1300 years.
Israel took their land back and became a state, due largely in part to the help of England, in 1947. Now the Muslims are trying to take it back again, claiming that it is rightfully theirs when, according to history, it is not.

There truly is no right or wrong in the situation in the Middle East. Everybody is right, and everybody is wrong. All of the people fighting over the land there truly do deserve the land. It has belonged to all 3 groups of people for time immemorial because these 3 groups were all the same people. First they were all jews and then some became christians and later some became muslim. So who is right and who is wrong, just the continuation of patiarchal religeons killing people in the name of god. If I were god I would not know how to solve the problem.

Britain partitioned the land in 1947 between Israel and Palestine. The Arabs told the Palestinians to leave while they kill all the Israelis. The Pals fled on the advice of their Arab brothers. Meanwhile Israel survived and Egypt and Jordan took over the land that was supposed to be the home of the Pals.
Jews from the mideast fled the Arab countries for Israel (just as Pals fled Israel for Arab countries). The Jews were welcomed into Israel but the Arabs rejected their new Palestinian neighbors..opting instead to put them into squalid refugee camps. The rest is history.

I think that Isreal is a country created by WW2 and that it exists. If Hitler didn't focus his attacks on the jewish people (which he really didn't, everyone just thought he did. He really was killing anyone who wasn't part of the master race.) then isreal woundn't have become a country.
I know that its been the target of many attacks over the years and i think that its recent actions in southren lebenon was totally ok. It showed that if you mess with Isreal you're going to get the crap missled out of you.
Guess where they learned that behavior? America.
