The shinkage happens when you put the clothes in the dryer...don't do that; hang them up to dry. If you're not putting your clothes in the dryer and they're shrinking during the wash, you might try buying a little more expensive clothing. Or, perhaps you've just outgrown them and you prefer to say they shrunk rather than saying you've gained weight...that's what happens to me!

Read the instructions. Cotton will always shrink. You can wash them and then let them air dry on a sweater rack or hanger. Make sure they aren't dry clean only

Are they dry clean only items? If not then you should try washing in cold water and hang drying. I work at a dry cleaners that's how we do hand wash items. If they are dry clean only then that's what needs to be done with them.

but cotton blends, like 95% cotton and 5% spandex or polyester or rayon. the added fabric doesn't shrink as much if at all, and keeps the cotton in shape. otherwise, buy a size up and shrink them first wash so you don't have to worry about it anymore
