She is 12yrs old & running around town (What's up with that). I would hope you or someone you trust would be close behind her while she is running around town. If you have a good relationship & great communiction skills there should be no need for a moblie.
Unfortunately there is still isn't enough conclusive evidence that mobile's are frying our brains & the scientific world seem to think it could be another 50yrs before they could tell.

I worked for a major cell phone company and saw this ALL the time. Then mom or dad calls cussing us out b/c they have a $500 phone bill when the problem is that Junior (& friends) use it like it's free. Text messaging, ordering ring tones & wireless internet are also a problem and can skyrocket a bill. The phones frequently get misplaced, stolen at school, etc. My advice is to get a prepaid phone. That will protect you from having an outrageous bill. I have seen bills that got over $1000 for ONE month, no joke. You won't have a contract that you'll have to pay to break in case you decide it wasn't such a great idea.

You should get her a pre-paid one first. I started out with one too. And if she is responsible with it and not wasting her minutes then get her a like a razer phone (i like those) when she's older. Because it's not a good thing when she does a lot of sports and always running around town and she cant get a hold of you if something does happen or vice versa. Just try trusting her it may work out! ^_^ good luck!

I have a 20 year old that has gone through three of them, and he wants another one - NO WAY am I paying for it!!! If I had it to do over again, I would not have gotten the family planl. My bills are sky high, but I have 3 boys and a husband. They help me with the bills when I ask or when it gets shut off!! I don't touch mine anymore, well my son broke it too.Girls are more responsible than boys, I think. And you could always know where she is or if she's having any problems...unless she's like mine - they don't answer all the time!!!

heck yess, get your child the cell phone but start off with a virgin or a boost, so that u can really test her responsiblity. i was 11 1/2 when i got my first cell phone..and you should definiately get the phone if your child is running around time all the time, a cell phone could come in use if she ever has an emergency or if an emergency happens in front of her and she needs to call the police..

I got a cell phone last year (I'm 11) and I love it because I use it whenever my mom has to pick me up from a friend's house or cheer practice.
P.S to get better prices on phones go to www.letstalk.com or www.wirefly.com
Good luck!

Test her with a pre-paid cell phone. This way if she makes abunch of non-sense calls. You are only out the minutes on the phone.

Rogers came out with those "fireflys" for younger kids which have preprogrammed numbers in them with one speed dial button for each parent and a phonebook for 20 friends... they look pretty cheap and i think you add them on to your current plan... you might want to look into that if you don';t want to get her a full out cell phone - especially with all the studies coming out with the harmful radiation emitted from cellphone and their impact on younger kids

Yeah.I would get her one.If you dont think she is resoponsible enough to have one get her a firefly phone. You program the numbers into it and thats the only ppl she can call.its not safe for her to be running all over town and have no way to be in contact with anyone.
