Because one person wants things to go one way and the other wants it to go the opposite way. It's all about compromise!

Maybe they just haven't found a way to productively communicate with one another, so they fight. I've been married for 13 years and we rarely fight...the only time we did was over his son who was manipulative and using both parents to get what he wanted (and almost breaking up our marriage in the process). He's now an adult, married with a kid so he is no longer an issue.
