No, it should not matter who calls someone else ignorant. But considering the past, with Caucasians using the word 'n****r' as a derogatory term directed toward the people who were African and others of African Descent, the word took on a new meaning. I am biracial and I refuse to use the word despite my African American friends telling me that it is okay. I do not think anyone of any race, creed or color should the word at all. I will admit, that when I hear a Caucasian person use the word, I get upset because 9 times out of 10, said person is racist and/or prejudice. But I also become upset when African American people use the word. The word has carried so much uneducated hate that it should be abolished from the English language.

I do not use that word. I would very harshly tell off anybody of any race who used it to refer to me or anyone else in my presence. I have seen people who act dumb and ignorant. However this is a behavior, not a racial attribute. I must say this to the poster who talks about the "race" card. That is a bunch of bunk. Not to generalize, but historically, people who say this have been playing the race "DECK" for years and rather than acknowledging the existence of racism or the fact that people of color are talented and have earned what they have. You need to go somewhere with this playing the race card nonsense.

Good question! It is a clear double-standard. It's OK for Blacks to use the "N" word, or for Mexicans to make fun of other Mexicans, or for Jews to say stuff about Jews, but if somebody, who's not a member of one of the above groups says/does the exact same thing, he/she is labeled racist. I think one must always consider the context of the specific situation. I can use the term "Black" or "African-American", but say it w/ a deliberately condescending tone of voice and facial expression, which is just as offensive as if I'd use n*gger. I think that society should not label words as being "good" or "bad", but, rather, assign such moral labels based on intent.

I think black people like to play the race card too much. I have seen them call other people names but when someone calls them one back they get offended. If you are going to dish it out then you need to take it as well. But really its not right either way no one needs to be calling other people names black, white hispanics, etc

This is a very sensitive issue.
I appreciate ur guts to question ur own community for behaving in an unreasonable manner.
Man, iff they won't respect their own kind, how would the others respect them!!
