If you are breastfeeding, there is no need to give your baby additional water if she has a minimum of 8 to 10 good, wet diapers a day. However, if you are formula feeding, you should give your baby 2 to 4 ounces of cooled boiled water at least 2 to 3 times a day. It keeps her hydrated and helps to prevent constipation. Pediatricians usually recommend that you do NOT start your baby on solid food of any kind until she is 6 months old. That means NO solid food, including infant rice, oatmeal and barley cereals (pablum). There is a very good reason for this, in that their digestive systems are too immature to handle anything more solid than mothers milk or formula until then. Babies under six months do not have the necessary enzymes in their digestive tract to properly digest solid foods. Introducing your baby to solid foods too early can result in problems with digestion and can trigger allergies later in life. By the time an infant is on solid foods, the milk/formula feedings are usually reduced, and the baby is given 2 to 4 ounces of water with each solid meal. You really should consult your pediatrician to determine if you should continue feeding your baby solids at this stage.

Your breastfed baby doesn't need any additional water - even in warm weather - as long as she is allowed to nurse frequently and you are properly hydrated yourself.
There are risks involved in giving water before 6 months of age. One is that your baby will become malnourished, as she can "fill up" on water and take less milk, depriving her of the nutrients she needs. There is also a condition called water intoxication - a US baby was admitted to hospital this summer as a result of drinking too much water. Make sure it is city water, not well water. Well water is not recommended for babies under 1 year old. My pedi didn't recommend giving her much water before 6 months. But a few sips after eating solids sounds fine.

Water or watered down juice is fine right now. If you go with the juice, buy the baby ones in the bottles...less acid.

Oh my gosh you haven't give your baby water yet???? Now would be a good time. When I was still in the hospital after having my babies they made me give them (sterilized) H2O in a bottle every day. They need water, I know that sounds plant like, and it kind of is but yeah your baby needs a DRINK.

You can give your child water any time that they will drink it. A lot of kids prefer it to juice and it is healthy for them to sip on all day long.

You could give her a small amount if you feel it's necessary. Giving her too much can fill her up though, and keep her from getting hungry and getting nutrition that she needs.
