Tendencies are genetic. Practices are learned.
Everyone has certain genetic predispositions to behavior, likes, dislikes, preferences, and that includes sexual preferences. But experiences and conditioning can have an impact on those as well.

I have come up with a new theory on this subject. As a lesbian who chose my lifestyle, but well read enough to know there is some evidence of higher amounts of progesterone in the womb when gays are born the jury is still out. Even if it were not I will put forth my theory for you..
The world's overpopulation problems are apparent. Mankind evolves over time. For nature to balance things it would evolve a certain percentage of the population into ones having no desire to breed but as man is a sexual being, this would create homosexuality. (even seagulls and fruit flies have their share of homosexuality.)
Now add to this mixture the social bigotry against gays.. gay bashing etc..
So in order to balance the population to a place where the planet can support everyone, there will need to be more and more homosexuals until there are enough of us to counteract all those who deem to stop our existence to create that natural balance.
The proof of this theory (if indeed it is proved right) will be to watch the growth of the homosexual population over the next say.. 100 years.. maybe by then we will be a majority and have all the rights we fight so hard for now.
We are evolution in progress.

because of the fact the angel Gabriel informed me that Jimmy Carter will exchange into the Antichrist aka Dajjal (8th King in Rev. 17) and he will serve yet another term in place of work after the dying of Obama (seventh king). The angel Gabriel informed me in Aug. 1973 while i became into in Phillipsbrug, Montana that Jimmy Carter will exchange into the Anti-Christ, and that he is going to alter his call, and divorce his spouse! Obama is going to die first and then the Anti-Christ aka Dajjal who became into between the previous 7 Presidents will take his place! Rev. 17:10 And there are seven kings: 5 are fallen, and one is, [and] the different isn't yet come; and while he cometh, he would desire to proceed a short area. All 7 kings have been all alive till the dying of Ronald Reagan June 5, 2004 while George W. Bush became into in place of work ; a million. Gerald Ford 2. Jimmy Carter 3. Ronald Reagan 4. George H. W. Bush 5. bill Clinton 6. George W. Bush.... is spoken of interior the present demanding (and one is) because of the fact till Reagan died (June 5, 2004) all 7 have been alive! 7. Barack Obama.......and one is yet to come back! he will die some days after he will boost taxes! Obama is likewise in Dan. 11:20 Then shall get up in his assets a raiser of taxes [in] the respect of the dominion: yet interior few days he would be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in conflict. Rev. 17:11 And the beast that became into, and is no longer, even he's the 8th, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.

i reference a previous answere of mine:
gay, straight, and bi are not genetic, hormonal, or environmental. it's a part of a person's personality, and sometimes a person's personality changes, i e we start to like foods we once hated. yes, genes, hormones, and environment all influence it somewhat, but at it's core it's deeper than influence, it's a part of who you are, and sometimes who you are changes as time goes by. Yes, if all your friends like spicy food and you don't, you can still force yourself to eat it till you get used to it, but it's not the same as if you just used to hate it and have found that your tastes have changed without you noticing right away. I myself, loved eggs as a child, but one day I took a bite and it was suddenly something that tasted horrible, and it has been ever since for me. Nothing in my hormones, genes, or environment said that on that day I should suddenly hate the way eggs taste. Many other things are also similar, and scientifically unproven. Science still can't find a real reason for us to need sleep, they still can't figure out why we're conscious while a dead body will not come back to life when made scientifically the same as a living one (small electric current through the brain and everything). There's a lot of things we just take for granted about ourselves, things that no one can really find an answer to. We sleep because we're tired, but we don't know why we need sleep rather than just more water, nutrients, and air.

Little of both, these days, I think. There are people who are born gay. But there's this whole wannabe-gay movement that I dont really understand that much. Fashionable, I guess to be gay, or at least bi. Maybe a backlash from the days when gay or bi was truely considered "queer."

I think people are born gay, because despite certain settings some people are still gay even if they don't come out ever, they just choose not to accept that part of themselves which leads to more hurt.

Why can it not simply be - - - why should it matter. What does it matter if a person chooses to have sex with those of the same sex? What does it matter if a person chooses to have sex with both sexes - - - ? Why should it matter? It is a matter of choice. Choice. A personal choice - - - yes we learn what we learn and in turn we learn what we were not meant to learn and in turn we turn to ourselves for the ultimate answer as to what we should do, wish to do with our bodies - -- and our souls. Those who seek possession of other people's soul through a demand they conform to their views are frightful and frightfully in the majority.
Peace.
