In case you are dying of curiosity, water goes down the drain in the direction of initial displacement, regardless of the hemisphere. There is a force, the Coriolis force, that in ideal circumstances, would force the vortex in opposite directions, but the ideal circumstances never occur except in very carefully controlled experiments—I think this care has been exercised only once or twice in history. Very large vortices are affected by this force. Hurricanes spin in opposite directions in the two hemispheres. A bathtub drain or a flushing toilet vortex are trivial in comparison and are, for all practical purposes unaffected by Coriolis. It is the direction the pipe is pointing, for example, that determines vortex direction, not the hemisphere.

The direction of the spinning should be much more affected by the the position and size of the mass to be disposed of.and the direction that the water is shot into the bowl. I must suspect that the coriolis effect would be very minimal.

not true; mine spins counterclockwise. That's an urban myth. The spin has something to do with the manufacture of the appliance.

confident. i think of it is likewise the case right here at distinctive circumstances of the twelve months, in case you pay interest interior the wintry climate as unfavourable to the summer season or some thing, if the water drains from the rest room or sink it rather is going to spin in distinctive instructions. I observed some thing approximately that on that previous teach Mr Wizard as quickly as, lol

It certainly is, and the most difficult part of dealing with this vital scientific fact is learning to run fast enough in the opposite direction in order to catch up with them. Then you have to do that clever reverse flying flip in order to land in a proper sitting position. Of course, remembering to take your pants off first is the same in all parts of the world.

According to my college physics professor, no, because the Coriolis effect (the spinning motion caused by the rotation of the earth) isn't strong enough to effect a current that small.

Well, people in USA America drive on the opposite side of the road than people in the UK,etc. where they drive on the correct side of the road.

Don't know about toilets, but it seems well established knowledge that bathtubs drain differently in the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisephere.

Why? Probably because they are either north or south of the equator.

(Things just are done "differently" 'down under'.)

Yes, due to the Coriolis effect, which is a factor to which way air and water moves in the different hemispheres. The effect is so small in toilets though, it is very difficult to detect.

That might be truth, cause i am in America and just flush my toliet but it spined in a clockwise position, maybe that is how the toliet is been built.

On the other side of the world it is most likely just a hole in the floor that you squat over and there is no spinning of any sort.
