Labels being what they are, and assuming you are "out", the relationship CAN work on some levels, but probably not in public. Personally, I find labels annoying, and prefer to keep my sexuality open to explore, even if IN a monogamous relationship with whomever...
If he's insisting on calling himself "straight" while you two explore and engage in clearly homosexual sex acts, then he might be deluding himself.
The OTHER option, which many men believe in, is that the "lifestyle" of many mainstream "gay men" is just as offensive and conforming as straight pop culture, both of which I see as boring and tiring. Any system which says I have to act, dress, think and consume like EVERYONE ELSE in order to be accepted and loved is a boring disaster of idiocy, and not my thing at all...
Maybe he's a free thinker like me... in which case it can succeed based on your allowing both of you to be your own person while you grow together.
Of course, if he's married, get the hell out now, before it gets ugly -- whew!
Good Luck :)

Go read a biography of Truman Capote - - - when he got older and needed the security of a relationship he went for 'straight' guys, he even took one man away from wife & kids. Truman did this because of personal insecurity, his weight his looks, by choosing a 'straight' man he knew they would not stray. They were in the relationship for a number of reasons. Most of them known only to themselves but writers speculate that at least one of Truman's straight boyfriends was over awed by Truman's celebrity - - - another one was definitely in it for the money, actually this one was 'bi curious,' a married man, he was at first startled that someone like Capote would go for him, and the money made it easy to decide to ditch the wife & kids. This pattern has likely been repeated many times; a successful Alpha Male and a quieter meeker Male who figures 'why not,' sometimes a relationship requires a few changes. Many a time a closeted Gay prefers a 'straight' partner. When I was in Canada, Vancover twenty years or so ago, I found dozens of Older 'straight' Males who had 'young' co-workers or simply friends and no one questioned the relationship. One example,a Native American boy age Nineteen, he wasn't 'gay,' but he loved working on cars & tearing aparts trucks and if that meant settling in with a fifty year old garage owner with similar taste in sports (hockey and the NFL) a penchant for beer & pizza, why not - - - but never call the Kid gay, he'd level you with his fist (his favorite phrase was "I ain't no sissy," and his mate loved it when the boy acted 'tough'). Nuff Said -- Peace....

honey, only one of you is in that relationship, and it is not the straight guy. Whatever his reasons are, it is not a true relationship for him.
Unless by relationship you mean that he loves you, but it would be OK if he never did you.
You need to define your terms some maybe... I can have a true friendship with someone, I can have a true love relationship with someone, I can have both with the same person.. but if only one of us has expectations and boundaries, then only one of us is in that relationship and it is doomed to fail when they do not meet the others expectations.

I don't see how a monogamous relationship between a straight man and a gay man could work. The math doesn't add up; there's also a substantial plumbing problem to overcome!

Based upon the information that you gave; I'm incline to believe its just a friendship. Regardless of sexual orientation, its simple and we all have people in our lives that have various beliefs, values, differences, ethnicity's, and yet we have true relationships with them. Continue to honor yourself with the appreciation and celebrating the diversity of those on you path of life.
