I oppose the death penalty, not because I do not believe people should be killed for committing certain types of crimes, but because I do not have sufficient faith in our legal system to suppose that a death sentence is being issued for the right reasons. For example, there have recently been many cases over-turned due to forensic genetic evidence clearly proving that the wrong person was convicted of the crime. (For example, the panties the girl was wearing when she was raped and murdered clearly had some of her attacker's DNA on them. But we were not able to do an actual DNA test until the past 10 years, and so the wrong guy was jailed for 25 years). That sort of thing.

If anything the death penalty should be stepped up. It is far from cruel these days . Most systems just shoot you up with a drug to calm you , then kill you. Why should I pay(taxes) to keep fed and housed a brutal animal? 99% of those who are executed commit such horrible murders and rapes that you would vomit if you saw it live. Many are against children. Speaking of children, all child murderers should be put to death after being found guilty immediatly. Anyone who disagrees with that in my opinion is very troubled themselves. Child rape and molesters should get castrated and put in with the meanest sons a bitches in prison. this is wicked horrible stuff and their is too much passivness and bleeding hearts for the "poor" killer or rapist. Yes , some innocent people have been executed but nothing, I mean nothing is 100% fullproof. I hope that helps you get a perspective. Peace.

I believe we should put more criminals to death. I'm a liberal, but the criminal justice system is just way too lenient. Anyone who is in jail for a life sentence should be executed. They will never again contribute to society in any constructive way due to their life-long incarceration. Why are they being kept alive? So they can teach prisoners with shorter sentences how to be a better criminal when they get out? I also think we should bring back coporal punishment. Public humiliation, in particular, could work very well in rehabilitating some criminals with certain psychological profiles. Instead of putting him a an environment where he must seek approval from other criminals, he is given chances to find approval from grandmothers, children, families. Obviously this will only work for very specific certain people. Instead of giving someone two years for possesion of a certain amount of marijuanna, wouldn't some number of lashes keep the system from being overcrowded? I am serious here, this is truly what I believe. I also believe in reincarnation and this might color my opinion.

I think the death penalty allows us to pass a kind of judgement that should be left only to the Lord. I *do* think that while incarcerated, prisoners should have to work or don't get to eat, and shouldn't get things like cable TV, etc. I also don't understand how some people can be anti-abortion and for the death penalty at the same time - how can you value life only sometimes?

I think th death penalty is the easy way out--ppl who deserve it should not get to die they should HAVE to live their entire life in a terrible prison and suffer the way they madfe other ppl suffer- too bad no prison is like that...but i dont believe in killing anyway even if the ppl do deserve it I know I would never be able to flick the switch on someone and live with it.

Mankind makes so many errors in the justice system that I think there should be a moratorium on the death penalty.

That is a toughie. On 1 hand, if someone was convicted for, some heinous crime, then it would be good to give them death, so that way it will keep one less dangerous criminal off the streets. (I've read that people with dangerous/criminal habits rarely break them.) But, on the other hand, if we convicted someone who we think did something bad enough for the death sentence, and we later find out that they didn't do it, then we just killed an innocent person. (or, at least innocent on that crime.) I do remember that once they arrested someone for "murder," and then they later found out that person didn't do it. So, I'm kinda divided on that issue myself.

I think we should raise money for prisons by putting executions on pay-per-view... think of it:
Be sure to tune in this Sunday, SUNDAY, SUNDAY!!
Witness the live executions of three convicted murderers...
The first will be ripped apart by a ravenous Bengal tiger.
The second will be shot out of a cannon into a volcano.
And one lucky viewer will be randomly chosen to determine the fate of the third condemned man... only $49.95 ORDER NOW!!
We could wipe out the National Debt in no time.

I have several reasons for opposing it.
1) we're supposed to be better than the criminals
2) being locked up the rest of your life seems like a worse punishment than being killed
3) in the event of an error, you can always let somebody out of jail and try to make it up to them. But it's kinda tough to bring someone you killed mistakenly back to life.

***********FOR********** i'm extra the HAMMURABI CODE variety... right here is why: It relies upon on the character of the crime. maximum persons of the youngster killers interior the previous 20 years have been REPEAT offenders for new child molestation and sexual attack even homicide and that they are enable loose back, they kill back. it relatively is human beings like people who slip during the device by using fact of overcrowding in prisons. Murderers, new child molesters, rapists get out, armed robbers and white collar criminals serve extra time incarcerated. Why waste taxpayer money to maintain monsters like those alive whilst it expenditures much less merely to get rid of them. constructive there is existence in detention center to be "humane" approximately issues yet you be attentive to what they did no longer provide their victims of undertaking, so WHY would desire to they get the prospect to stay? This is going for under responsible perpetrators, no longer harmless, there is not any justification for sending an harmless individual to die extremely.
