1. The reason we succeed is because every last person is willing to take an extra step, to do what is neccessary. If even one person was to half-*** it, we would not be NEARLY as successful.
2. In order to understand how our clients feel and think, we have to find out how they live. We have to find out how everyday things affect them, how unexpected things happen, we must find in ourselves, how it would feel to BE that person.
I hope this helps. I can't think of a simpler way to explain it. If it's of no help, I apologize.

To go the extra mile is to make a maximum effort and to do more than is expected of you.
To walk a mile in someone else's shoes would be to live as they live and/or have the same problems.

OK, I tried to make this short and simple... I could have written quite a bit about both of these... great subjects.
1. One person can not bring about the success of a team, it takes every person going above and beyond.
2. To provide a solution or offer assistance we first must understand what our customers needs are... not what we perceive them to be.

If you can't understand these phrases at their face value, then you couldn't possibly understand their explanations.
'Go the extra mile' and 'walk a mile in their shoes' are already simplified versions of more elaborate concepts.
These idioms would mean the same in any language.
