By South, I mean the 11 original states of the Conferderacy. OK can be included, as well as southern parts of MO, KY, and WV.

Favorites:
1. Texas. It speaks for itself; I'd love to live there. Most people there don't talk with twangs and wear cowboy hats, contrary to popular belief. The people are the most charitable and welcoming I've ever met. The arts, variety of cultures, history, diversity of geography: Texas has it all!
2. Mississippi: The sweet smell of southern pines on a crisp, foggy morning. It's truly a beautiful place!
3. Tennessee: Much like Mississippi, but with more diversity in its geography. Memphis and Nashville are awesome!
4. N. Carolina: Gorgeous scenery, good economy
5. Alabama: Same reason as MS; still pretty, but not as much as MS, TN, or NC.

Least favorites:
1. Kentucky: Most people there are rude, impolite. "Thank you" is rarely said. Terrible drivers!
2. Florida: Same as KY
3. Georgia: Can you say "Atlanta"?
4. Arkansas: Boring to drive thru

The rest of the ones I didn't mention: I'm not trying to blow ya'll off! I don't love those states, but I don't have anything personal against them, either. So, I guess you could say I like them!

Least Favorite - Georgia/Texas/Florida tie because of Atlanta and Texas' corruption and Florida's disrespect for elderly New Yorkers.

Most Favorite - South Carolina - nice people all over the place and a strong recovery from its racist past.

I've lived in five states, three of them in the South. And I have travelled extensively for business and pleasure, spending months and months in some of these places:

Texas - I enjoyed my years there, but I don't think I'd move back. It's almost like a Third World country...the gangs are out of control...it is SO hot...sooooo hot...

On the plus side, if you are a young man the women there are so friendly, approachable and gorgeous...and there are many opportunities to get out and meet them: outdoor activities, music venues, festivals, etc.

Lousianna: Loved living on the Northshore - before Katrina. New Orleans was a dirty, scary, creepy place that I had little use for. Great food - even better than Texas - but man did I get fat living there. Hot chicks there too.

Georgia: Outside of Atlanta, Macon, Columbus, Augusta and other awful ghetto towns it's okay...but the cancer is spreading. Savannah is kinda cool to visit....but live there? Hell no. Almost everyone in the state with a college degree works in the Atlanta area and dreams of moving to the mountains. Or out of state.

Mississippi: A beautiful state run by complete morons. When the military closes down the bases in a few of those towns it is going to be painful. I would live there.

Tennessee: Perhaps my favorite state in the US. I wonder why I don't live there. Knoxville, Nashville, Memphis, Chattanooga, Dollywood...wow. See Ruby Falls! See Rock City!

Alabama: Birmingham has a good place to eat "The Golden Rule." That's about all I can say for it.

Florida is not that bad - I would NEVER live there, but I have had real good times visiting there for work or pleasure...St. Augustine is fun...NASA and the cape are cool...and the white sands of the "redneck" riviera are actually quite nice.

North Carolina: spent a lot of time there - don't care for it. Chapel Hill is over-rated. Remember when music critics said it would be the "next Seattle?" Ha.

South Carolina: Charleston is worth a visit or two. The rest of the state is okay...but nothing much to say about it.

Virginia: Might as well be NJ - rude people, pricey, most of it sucks - except I do like the "DelMarVa" area. Great seafood.

Arkansas: As dull as Ohio. Thousands of miles of soybean and cotton. Good catfish though and some of the best musicians came from there.

Kentucky: Holy freakin' St. Christopher does this place have bad drivers! I thought I would die the first time I drove across that state. Lots of - sorry - poor white trash driving in the 90 to 120 mph range in rust buckets that look like they will explode...

Mississippi is my favorite because it has the Tunica county casinos along the river which makes a great vacation destination. The people are pleasant and the winters are mild so it is a great break from the Northeast. Texas is my unfavorite because it has a terrible climate and everything is too far away from everyplace else so driving is a hassle.
