I want to overcome the depression that has haunted my life for over twenty years so that I can find out what "normal" people feel like.

I think you mean legacy. A legend is a story that was originally based on facts, but has been told so often and embellished so much that it bears little resemblance to the actual event. Example: Johnny Appleseed.

Mine sounds selfish. I want to find that which makes me happiest. At this point it's my writing, whether it's journal entries or fictional stories. I want to spend time studying the craft, learning from it, and then applying it so it shows how I truly am--not how I'm perceived by others, but the innermost me. If I can reach others and have them say that's exactly what they meant or how they felt, great. That would fulfill a dream of giving to others. If it doesn't turn out that way because of a recurring illness or should my life be shortened, then I would like my family--especially the descendants--to be able to read about me, my life as a historical document, my perspectives on the world I grew up in and now reside in, a psychological/sociological study that might shed light on my behaviors or that of others I have witnessed.

I don't want my epitaph to say "she came, she saw, she conquered." Rather, I'd like it to be "she was, she listened, she challenged."
