A real friend can be determined by a feeling. If you feel that you can and would turn to this person as you would turn to your family, being that your family is the ones you would turn to first, than that person is a friend. This meaning that you trust (more than you would trust anyone else) and they trust in you the same way.

A real friend in my mind is someone who likes you for you not what you have or look like. A real friend is someone who is there when you need a shoulder to cry on or a place to vent. A real friend doesn't care how the outside world treats you because no matter what you do they are still your friend, a REAL friend will tell you things that you need to know, even when you don't want to know.

A real friend is someone who introduces herself to the new girl in school and doesn't judge based on what the new girl looks like. She takes you under her wing and helps you adjust to your new life. She is there for your first boyfriend, your first dance, your first kiss, your first heartbreak, your school achievements, your failures, your family problems. You argue and swear you'll never talk again, but as soon as one of you has the slightest problem, one is right there to comfort the other. You go through career and life choices together, you are a bridesmaid in each other's wedding, you are there when one discovers she cannot have children, you are there for each other through multiple medical problems, through the loss of a parent, more family problems, marital problems, job loss, and everything in between. You can go six months without speaking and two years without seeing each other, but you know that you can call her at 2:00 in the morning on any given night and she will be right there for you no matter what. You have different opinions on so many things, and really not a whole lot in common anymore at all. But, she is like a sister, without the messy family jealousy. You love each other unconditionally and can stay on the phone for hours at a time, without having anything really to talk about. You are lucky if you can find one real true friend in this life. They are so hard to come by, and so many friends just come and go.

For me...a real friend would always be there for me when i'm hurting...when i need someone to talk to...when i need help...when i need encouragement. A real friend would encourage me to do the right thing in a situation, whether i agreed with it or not...there's much more i could say but those are the things i look for as the main issues.

A real friend is some one that knows all about you and your faults but accepts you for you. One whom you can count on to be there in the good times and in the bad. One who may not agree with you but gives you the freedom to make your own choices. A best friend can be your mom or dad, any relative or person you know or a spouse. Best friends are pals and confidants and a lasting friendship is one to be desired. I have a best friend of 20 years and she is like a sister to me. We share the same intersts in life.

A real friend does things in your best interest, not to enhance his/her own stature. A real friend tells you the truth when others around you are not being truthful. A real friend doesn't disappear when the going gets tough. A real friend doesn't worry about whether or not you are his/her friend. A real friend loves you in spite of your faults, not because of them. Real friends are rare and we usually have very few of them.

A real friend likes you for who you are. A real friend will be there for you on good days and bad ones, through thick and thin. A good friend wont betray any secret that you may reveal to them. A real friend wont judge you.
If you ever got arrested for something a real friend will say to you(man you really messed up) and not condemn you.

To me, a real friend is somebody who won't want to see you gloomy and will do all their power to try and make you feel better. They'll make you feel great about yourself and they'll be so loyal and trustworthy that you can open up to them without feeling insecure. A real friend won't start stuff just for attention either. They'll encourage you when you feel you can't continue and they'll like you for you and not for what you've got-whether it's money or a cool car. Last but not least, they will NEVER pressure you continuously or manipulate you.

A real friend would...
warm you with their presence
trust you with their secrets
and remember you in their prayers...
isn't that such a nice poem?
