thereis a green star next to the serial number on one of my $20 bills, ive never seen one b4 what does it mean?

It's a sign that this is a replacement note for a bill that was damaged in the normal printing process. See the link below for more information.

Answerer #1 got it right (except for the value, but then his link was to a site selling the bills so of course they would say they're valuable), so I'll just add that years ago, I started saving the star bills because I thought they may be worth something. When I found out they're just regular dollars, I counted up what I'd saved. $150. Took the family out for dinner that night. :-)

Its a replacement bill. The original was damaged somehow at the mint when it was being made. Extremely rare. Hold on to it. Keep unwrinkled. Put in safe deposit box. Guestimate value $100-$300

all currency is printed in sequential order. If a bill ir not perfect, it is replaced by another bill which always has a star.

this is a sign of an error note that has been destroyed and the number reused
