His family were offered a state funeral but it was rejected. His family would have had his best interests in mind and thats all that matters.

No. They should have his funeral where he would have wanted it or where the family wants it. Just because you are a celeb doesn't mean the public needs to be involved in every aspect of your life/death.
How sad that he died... he seemed like a really good man.

No. State funerals should be only for the highest government officials, former presidents, military leaders, etc. not for TV stars, i dont care how popular that they were.

i realize that australia has the right to give a state funeral to anyone who they want to but, lets put things into perspective here. i know that he was likeable and popular, but the guy CAUGHT SNAKES AND WRESTLED CROCODILES. its not like he led his country through a world war, or found a cure for cancer or anything like that. let's leave the highest honor of the country to those who truly deserve it.

No, I think there is a certain leval of intamacy that needs to be regaurded by his family. A public, and large affair would take away the privacy of his families final goodbyes.

If his family doesn't want it, then that should be enough. Maybe there could be a memorial service for everyone else at a later date.

Absolutely! He was a national icon of his native country. He did more for education than a lot of people of our age.
