If they are not parallel neither 1 is over the other, they must have 1 and only 1 point of intersection.

why? because if they are not parallel it means in one direction the distance between them is getting shorter until the point of intersection

No. Standard Equation of a Line: y = mx +b

MOST lines will have one point of intersection.
Equations 1 and 2: m and b are different.

PARALLEL lines will have no points of intersection.
Equations 1 and 2: m is same but b is different

SAME LINE will have infinite points of intersection (imagine drawing a line on a piece of paper then a second line directly over the first)
Equations 1 and 2: m and b are both the same

ALSO, there are other types of lines than the typical straight line. For example: ax^2 + by^2 = c^2 is a line commonly known as the CIRCLE! =)

Not always true. Two lines in the same plane will either have one point of intersection or no points of intersection (if they are parallel). It is also possible that the two lines are in different planes and never intersect, in which case they are called skew lines.

By definition, parallel lines never intersect. Even two lines that are perpendicular to (at right angles with) each other don't intersect if they are in separate planes. Only lines that are not parallel and that share the same plane will intersect.

No if they are truly parallel lines they will never intersect, if you look at globe of the earth you will see that the lines of latitude - east to west - run completely around the earth without intersecting, but the lines of longitude - north to south - meet at the poles, therefore the lines of latitude are truly parallel, but the lines of longitude are not.

just think about it. if you were sitting on top of the world, and drew two lines, at some point, maybe millions of miles away from where you were or where you could actually see it, they would have to cross. UNLESS, and this is the only exception, the two lines are parallel, which means they run side by side. It's kind of one of those "simple stupid" things. No offense, it's just that it's some times TOO easy to understand.

Hello.Yes,every two lines has to have a point of intersection.Because every line is pointing to something.Take this for instance,you are standing in the middle of a room,there is an object in front of you,there is also one object on each side of you.The lines have to intersect somewhere,so no matter what distance you are from an object,you are still actually parrallel to it...therefore,the lines have to cross...

If they are perfectly parallel, they will not have a point of intersection. Only if they cross each other.
