Sosa is currently back home in the Dominican Republic and is not currently attached to any professional baseball team. He has not officially retired though, and has hinted that he may try a comeback in 2007 (if someone is willing to pick him up and pay his price).

Out at Home
Buyer low-balls Sammy Sosa in sale of slugger’s Lake Point Tower condo
Sammy Sosa, the Cubs’ once-beloved home-run king, suffered through a double play of disappointments this past fall. In late September, he sold his palatial spread in Lake Point Tower for less than half of what he had initially hoped to get for it. Then, in November, his latest team, the Baltimore Orioles, dropped him from its 2006 roster.
After leaving Chicago in February 2005, Sosa listed his sprawling 55th-floor home for $4.5 million. (Sosa had bought the place—three units com-bined into one 13-room condominium—for an undisclosed sum in 1997.) His real-estate agent, Azar Katibeh of American Invsco, later dropped the price to $2.7 million.
Streeterville
List price: $2.7 million
Sale price: $2.1 million
The unit has six bedrooms, one of them a guest room with three queen-size beds. The place ultimately sold this past September for $2.1 million. At press time, the buyer’s name had not yet appeared in public records. Katibeh did not respond to requests for comment, nor did Sosa or his sports agent, Adam Katz.
After hitting 35 or more home runs each year from 1995 to 2004, Sosa had a dismal single season with the Orioles in 2005. Sidelined by injuries, he hit only 14 home runs. At press time, Sosa had not yet landed with another team.

According to broadcast reports, Sosa is claiming that he is taking a break from baseball and that he's not retired yet. He was also recently upset that MLB did not include him among the Cubs' five hometown heroes, a recent promotion by the league.
Have fun, enjoy MLB, and be safe!

He hit a slump and then got injured. He became a free agent, a minor league team (the Nationals) offered him a contract which he turned down. I think right now he's just biding his time and waiting for the new season to start.

The Orioles didn't resign him after the '05 season (in fact, I think he left the team a few days before the season ended) and nobody offered him a contract this year.
