My mom is going to have me go to her gyno and I'm in a LOT more pain at that one point in the month. The first 1 or 2 days are more heavy (heavier than usual). Is there anything I can do to reduce the pain?

If you know for sure you had an ovarian cyst, the doctor who diagnosed that should have given you some ideas for pain management. If they didn't, call and complain/ask/etc because they should have.

Anyway ... I've always been a fan of ibuprofen, it works really well for pain. If your doctor wants you to go heavier, ask for a prescription for Ponstan or Doxycyline. Beware though, they both have side effects (doxy gives REALLY bad headaches if you don't eat enough, and ponstan can make you kind of loopy!)

Buy a pilates ball, they don't cost that much - inflate it and lay on it on your back, slowly rolling back and forth. It will slowly stretch out your lower abdominal and uterine muscles, which will help ease some of the cramping.

Grab your heating pad/hot water bottle and make it your best friend. Even if doesn't really "do" a lot, the warmth can be comforting. The same can be said for taking a warm bath.

If you see a chiropractor, ask them to do a lumbar spine adjustment - much of the uterine pain refers to the back, and when your lumbar spine is adjusted, it will ease some of the pain in your uterus.

Other than that, I can recommend doing what your body tells you it needs...walk, eat something your stomach feels like, stretch, and so forth. Listening to your body is the most important thing.

As a final note, my sympathy goes out to you being so young and dealing with an ovarian cyst. I had my first one when I was around 13/14, I know what it feels like. Don't be afraid to ask questions when you go to the gyno, and please don't leave without having all your questions answered in a way that you feel you fully understand. Good luck!

My sister had this problem (and I now do in older age with added weight) and what you need to do is exercise. Get into a sport and keep weight off that area. Your doctor will probably tell you more about this though.

fill an epty coke can with warm water and tape the top shut then keep it on your belly where it hurts the most and you can put two or three on....when it gets cool put it in a pot of hot water for a few minutes.
