Hm mm. OK. You have two variables in this question, impending, and danger.
Impending means 'close in time; about to occur.' It does not actually mean occurring. Something, dangerous in this case, is about to happen. This changes the question from how do you react to danger to how will you react to danger. The danger is seen as coming, but not yet come.
Danger is such a vague term. It must be converted into a personal event. People have various degrees of personal space into which some danger must intrude before it is acted upon. The world is full of dangerous events that are coming toward us (impending) but for which there is no action called for. These include such every day dangers as traffic, disease, and dangerous situations that could lead to accident. These are real dangers that we learn to avoid. We are always acting to avoid them. We see (sense) the traffic, and wait (immediately) to cross the street. We see (sense) the dirty (dangerous) restaurant, and (immediately) don't eat there.
So the question is about common sense. Do you pay attention so the dangerous things in life, or ignore them.
It comes down to personal space. If the danger enters my personal space, I react. If it stays out of my personal space, I avoid it. If it is not something I can do anything about, I try not to worry about it. For example, second hand smoke is a known carcinogen, which is indeed dangerous, but since I sometimes can not avoid it, I try not to pay attention. Worrying is probably as unhealthy as second hand smoke. I don't need the stress.
I certainly don't worry about terrorism. Terrorists killed less than 4,000 people last year world wide. Auto accidents in the US are more serious. [1] In 2003 there were 6,328,000 car accidents in the US. There were 2.9 million injuries and 42,643 people were killed in auto accidents. Ten times as many people are killed in car crashes in the US than were killed by terrorists in the whole world. But I am not afraid of driving. It is part of modern society.
I do react immediately to danger when driving. I also 'drive ahead' by which I mean I plan my driving course depending on future situations and plan where I will go before the situation requires me to act upon danger.
;-D Good driving is an important skill. Pay attention!

Having experienced "impending danger" myself, and also being athletic and intelligent woman, I immediately acted by getting to a brightly lite mall (I was being followed in my car), and ran in and called the police - I was so upset with myself following all that, because by the time the police came he had pulled out of the mall and here I was 2-BLOCKS from the police station and realized that before they arrived. So YES, you act IMMEDIATELY but not always sensibly...

What type of danger are you talking about? Terrorists again? How does one act? If they are going to strike again, and they will, they will strike big and there will be "no act" to take "immediately"

sounds like it is a heart attack! even whether it is not, it is possibly some thing the two as considerable. Get to a physician ASAP! If it happens lower back, call 911 in the present day and get to a well-being center.

Well, not exactly... I'd probably freeze in my tracks (if it's like a noise or something) and listen as hard as I can for anything... but if it's something like a guy pulling a gun out who's about to shoot me, then I would just run for it and scream at the top of my lungs. :) Like the quesion, BTW!

I wish. I usually stand around until I understand why I feel so spooked before I can act in any way - sometimes, that's too long.

Yeah, I always wanted a robber just to rob a store without a weapon, so I could show off my bravery and stop him!
