I started putting my baby on her belly at a few weeks old. Only start with a few minutes at a time and make sure you stay within arms reach at all times! Try it a few times a day for a few minutes and gradually build up in time as your abby builds strength. Everything that I have read about tummy time says to start early so your baby gets used to being on their belly. Sometimes they don't like it and will cry - if this happens don't force the issue, just try again later!
My little girl was lifting her head and turning it from side to side at an early age. If you have one of those boppy pillows they work great for tummy time because you can kind of prop the baby up and his/her head won't be on the floor. I used one of those for Sophie. Good luck!!

It's a fine time to start! The sooner the better really. However never leave your baby unattended during this time, not even for a second. And usually about a few minutes several times a day is good at first. As your baby gets older they will enjoy tummy time a lot more and you can extend their tummy time. But even then remember to never leave them unattended.
Congrats!

What is tummy time? All I can say is a two weeks, don't put NO WATER near the belly, until the scab from her belly falls off. My daughter had to have surgery because a little trickle of water got in her belly, and it infected her. As a result her vagina area was swollen. Don't kiss her belly either. Your saliva is still considered bad. Wait until the scab completly falls off, AND the belly heals, cause even when the scab comes off, the belly is slightly still exposed. Take if from someone who got two kids, and I started early, so I know.

Not to early but some people do prefer to wait until the baby has a little more control of their movement. I don't see it as being "important" at 2 wks because all their going to do is sleep and eat anyway! But if you do do it, make sure there are no pillows are blankets of any sort around!

I did it as soon as my daughter's belly button stump fell off (9 days) so it wouldn't bother her.
If it's off, do it ASAP. If you wait too long, your baby might become too accustomed to being on his or her back, and will just cry the whole time.
You don't want that, they need to work those muscles (not to mention you don't want the baby to be flat headed!)
good luck and congrats
Note: I don't know why people are telling you to wait until the baby can hold its head up ~ that's the point of tummy time, so they can learn!!

Start supervised tummy time soon after birth, so your baby will be used to, and comfortable in this position. Start with very short periods of time (1-2 minutes) on a flat, firm surface several times each day, perhaps after diaper changes.
Babies should only be on their tummies for short periods, and never right after feeding. They should not be left unattended. They should continue to sleep on their backs.
Supervised tummy time encourages babies to push up on her hands and arms. This helps to develop the strong shoulder, arm and hand muscles needed for skills like reaching, grasping, colouring, and printing.
Babies also learn to balance themselves while on their tummies. Balance is important for rolling, crawling, sitting, and walking.

At this point all your baby will do is lay face down on whatever you put her. When she starts to turn her head towards sounds, etc. be sure to start tummy time. We started around one month. That way she can move her head and gain neck control. Or he, I don't know if your baby is a boy or girl.

I would wait a little longer. I would probably wait another month or so. Right now i wouldnt be worried about the tummy time, but just spending time holding your baby. your baby would probably just cry if you put them on the floor at this point.

Start any time. Just make sure that you supervise properly. They used to tell mothers to put their babies to sleep on the stomach, but don't now because of SIDS. If baby is not supervised, and buries his/her head in the mattress, etc. that is most likely the real problem. Children also used to raise their heads, and crawl earlier because of it.

It is never to early for tummy time. Just make sure you supervise baby and don't let it sleep on their belly.
