I know a lot of people whom have been in prison and the common misconception that they are thugs that will never change. I have found that there was a profound level of disrespect that they receive. People often view them as violent and criminals. Granted they were placed in prison for doing something wrong but it is not always for something violent. Not only that but the ones that I have met had no interest in doing anything else wrong to end up back in prison.

A common misconception about prisons is that people believe prisons actually help someone change into a better person because they are being "punished" for something.
That only seems to work for murderers on death row who suddenly "find Jesus" shortly before they are to be executed and a lot of people on the outside start saying that person should be saved since they found Jesus... :)

I've never been to prison, but I think they either treat you a lot better than you'd expect or a lot worse. I think it depends on which prison and for what crime.
