I never did, but if I did I would not find it embarrising. You are already spread eagle with your vagina out for all to see, and a doctors hand up it. All sense of pride and modesty is gone.

RE:
How many woman actually poop during labor?
I have heard of women pooping during labor (while they are pushing). This sounds highly embarassing and I was wondering how many women actually do this or is this just like the very few who experience this. Also, does one pass gas during labor(while they push)? I have no idea waht to expect and...

I don't think anyone keeps statistics about how many women do, but I think it is common. Doctors and nurses have seen it all. When you are having a baby, it is pretty messy anyway and mom having a bowel movement is just another natural bodily function that happens sometimes. It is a good idea when you start having contractions to eat very lightly. Some women are also nauseous during labor and delivery. You won't be in any frame of mind to worry about embarrassment when the time comes, all you'll be able to think about is getting that baby OUT! Most labor and delivery nurses are excellent about getting you cleaned up after delivery. After delivery you'll most likely have some pain and swelling in your vaginal area so you'll be checked to make sure everything is healing OK and the nurses will be most interested in how much you've peed.

Don't worry about this!! That will be the last thing you're thinking about at that moment. I've had 2 babies and been in the delivery room when my mom had my little sister (we're 22 yrs. apart) and also seen my two nephews be born. During my last nephew's birth, my sister in law was really worried about this, and so the labor nurse put a washcloth on the bed against her so if she would've pooped, we never would've known. Still don't know if she did or not (really doesn't matter anyway--the baby is the most looked at thing in the room!) Good luck.

I pooped a little, but I was also trying to push a 91/2 lb baby out, he never came out by the way!!.. The Dr's didn't tell me, they just cleaned it up like it was nothing. My hubby told me later, yea I was a little embarrassed, but I was in labor!! I also kinda peed in the bed after they gave me some sorta drug (no one could tell b/c water was still coming out from the contractions), can't remember what it was called, but boy did it feel good, I couldn't control any of my bodily functions, I was so relaxed!! Anyway, don't worry about any of that, your there to have a baby!! Congrats on the baby, and good luck!!

I poopied during labor with my first. My co worker also did when she gave birth. Doctors say if u poop during the pushing that u are pushing right. Otherwise they would not say push like u are having a bowel movement right? Trust me when u are in labor pooping is going to be the least of your concerns...Good Luck!!

It is a completely normal bodily function that happens to most women in labour. Our bodies naturally eliminate most of the contents at the onset of labour (that is why diarrhea is a sign of labour). But yes it happens. Just remember that everyone in the room has seen women poop hundreds of times. As a birth professional I will tell you that this is a normal concern for women. Please don't be embarresed. It happens to most women. You can avoid some chance of it if you push on your hands and knees instead of on your back. Less pressure on the bowels.

LOL trust me in the moment of pushing and pain, you wont care about that embarassing moment. Personally I would know i had a c-section but my 2 best friends had normal deliveries 1 pooped and the other didnt. My friend that pooped advise, dont eat too much the day your doctor tells you its time.

I had the SAME fear! To be completely honest, everyone told me that I wouldn't care at that point what happened but I have to say that I totally did!!! I told the nurses my fear and embarassment about it and they were SO reassuring that most everyone does it during a normal vaginal delivery. I STILL was not convinced enough to not be uptight about it b/c, frankly, who is ever comfortable pooping on a table in front of complete strangers? I have to say, though, your body does what it has to do in order to push that baby out and you have to take the good with the bad (or embarassing). It is what it is... And no one else cares. The doc and nurses are so used to it and they told me that it happens to most everyone. The one thing that made me feel 110% better was the nurse said this to me, "Oh, honey, I worked in a VA Hospital for years....this is NOTHING, trust me!!!"....So, it sorta shed new light. :) Now, as I sit back and think about it almost a year later I don't care. I hope this helps and good luck; cherish the experience - it all happens so fast.
