Just as mapleguy said, contact your local city hall and explain the facts of the case (try not to get overly emotional or you'll come across as, well, overemotional).

My cable company came in to move the cable, and they sent a 3rd party contractor. The guy went up into my attic because he thought that's where the cables were. I don't have a floor there and he put his foot through my drywall, bringing down part of the ceiling. Since I was downstairs when it happened, he left without ever telling me. I placed about 5 calls to the cable company but couldn't get them to return my call.

I called our Village Hall and explained what happened. Within three hours I had calls from 2 supervisors at the cable company AND their insurance company. The Village has the franchise on the cable provider and therefore they can threaten to prohibit the cable company from providing their feed into their community.

Be firm without letting your anger get the better of you. Let them know why you're not satisfied with the service you got and what you want to happen from this point forward. Be ready to negotiate but don't feel as though you have to settle for less than you want (ex. if you're looking for refunded money, do you need it in a lump sum or are you willing to settle for money rebated on your bill each month?)

Good Luck

Check for the availability of DSL in your area. If there is NONE, then contact the local computer store as ask if they can do something for you to get the service going again.

Simplify your setup. Connect your computer directly to the Cable Modem. Turn off the modem for a moment, then turn it back on. From this simple configuratiom, your cable tech support should be able to assist you better.

Go to city hall and complain. The cable company has a franchise with the city, and if they want to keep it, they have to keep the city happy.
